About stevenklipper Rode Swan

The stevenklipper Rode Swan was built in 1880 for cargo shipping on the Rhine. Since spring 2019, Vincent and Dorette have been the proud owners of the Red Swan. They live and work on board all year round; from April to October, they are together the professional crew during sailing trips. Vincent and Dorette not only sail the ship, but also aim to introduce their guests to the nature (wonders) of the Wadden Sea and, for those who want to, to the art of sailing. This makes the Rode Swan ideal for groups that want to discover and experience sailing and nature. The Red Swan needs at least 10 active guests on board to set all the sails. Between individual sailing activities, you can relax in one of the many comfortable cushions on the deck and enjoy the beautiful view.

A comfortable and roomy ship

Thanks to the Red Swan’s so-called hollow hull, there is plenty of space inside, with up to 2.5 metres of headroom forward. Below deck, the cosy nautical lounge invites you to relax and socialise. The ship has 13 cabins with washbasins with cold and hot running water and a separate area with showers and toilets. The fully equipped open kitchen with a large cooker and oven is directly connected to the dayroom.

Sailing area of the Rode Swan

The skippers

Vincent and Dorette

Since spring 2019, Vincent and Dorette have been the proud owners of the Red Swan. After taking possession of it, they refurbished the entire ship inside and out. Vincent has been familiar with the “brown fleet” since he was 17 years old. First as a mate, four years later he got his skipper’s papers and was also allowed to sail. He has now been a skipper on the Wadden for over 20 years. He is an avid sailor, and if the guests like it, he likes to show them the sporty sailing characteristics of the Red Swan. After studying in Delft, Dorette lost her heart to sailing and has had her diploma from the Enkhuizer Zeevaartschool since 2018. She is happy to explain everything about sailing to guests. Faithful ship’s dog Sara likes to greet guests as they enter. She is a quiet dog and is happy to join guests who wish to do so on the fatboys. She stays above deck and in the skipper’s downstairs quarters. She knows she is not allowed to enter the guests’ quarters.
