Johan Moen discovered the ship early 2003, acquired it and made it his goal to breathe life back into the sailor.
Contrary to the “usual” division, the NOORDERLICHT has a crusade deck. Already at the time of the old East India ships the best place on board was the “Crusade”, where the captain and his most important guests were accommodated. Now, you are accommodated as a guest in the Crusade. Crusade is the name given to the entire rear area of the ship, which is equipped with a spacious salon including a bar and a professional kitchen. The equipment was particular arranged to create an exclusive and maritime ambience.
In 2013, the NOORDERLICHT received a lounge corner in the deckhouse, which invites to a comfortable stay.
What else is on board:
Crusade lounge, large aft salon with bar, tap, kitchen, oven, dishwasher, TV/radio/CD, plenty of seating on deck.

Johan started sailing at a young age and is now a member of the ‘old guard’ of skippers in Harlingen. In ’88, he bought the Larus, on which he sailed for four years. After that, the Poolster was launched, which Johan rebuilt and fitted out himself. But his love for building and sailing ships was not over yet: since 2003, the schooner ‘Noorderlicht’, built by Johan and Carin, sails from Harlingen. An ideal ship for large parties, company outings, schools and family reunions. Johan loves to cook and can provide a hearty sailor’s meal for his guests. Without the inspiring leadership of Carin it would all fail. A good duo!
