Ameland has three thousand residents, who have established themselves in four picturesque villages Nes, Hollum, Ballum and Buren. With more than 1300 species of plants and birds as the harrier, a unique wildlife and with the presence of salt, fresh and brackish water the nature on Ameland not only alternately but also rich endowed.
On the East side is located ‘t Oerd and sidely the Hon. Together they form a nature reserve of international importance that consists of dunes and salt marshes. The beaches on Ameland are quite narrow and particularly on the westbeach you can see how te sea affects the dunes.
