This sturdy Friesian Maatkast is unique in our fleet and has a rich history.

She was built in 1926 and specially made, “op maat”, to fit precisely in the locks of the Friesian inland waterways. Her shallow draught means that the Ideaal can sail easily in both the Waddenzee and the IJsselmeer, but a trip through the Friesian inland waterways is also possible.

The outside of the ship still looks as it did originally, with her hatch covers, strike-able masts and comfortable seating area. Below decks it is obvious just how comfortable and airy the interior is. The galley is well equipped and there is an attractive saloon. The cabins are spacious and airy, with opening windows, and hot and cold running water. The whole ship has the benefit of central heating.

In spite of her heavy, tough appearance the ship handles well. The Ideaal is in her element particularly in a stiff wind. There is no doubt you will enjoy your ideal sailing trip onboard this ship!
