Five-Day Sailing Trip on the Wadden Sea

Step aboard and prepare for a midweek of pure enjoyment. We’ll treat you to delicious meals while you explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Wadden Sea. This trip includes more than just sailing; expect visits to several Wadden ports and, of course, the magical experience of tidal beaching on the Waddensea floor.

Itinerary for this Five-Day Sailing Trip on the Wadden Sea

Landlubber, please note: a ship sails where the wind takes her. The program below serves as an example. The exact itinerary will be determined on board according to the tide.

During this sailing trip across the Wadden Sea, the ship serves as your base to explore this beautiful area. Upon boarding, the captain, first mate, and chef welcome you with a cup of coffee and a traditional Frisian treat. Settle into your cabin and enjoy an evening with your companions and fellow passengers.

On the first morning, the captain will discuss possible itinerary options with you. As the tides cannot be controlled, the group democratically decides on the plan, after which the ship heads out to open water, and sails are hoisted. Who’s up for lending a hand?

Enjoy the sunshine and fresh breeze on the way to Vlieland. Lunch is served along the way, giving you energy to explore the first port. Will you wander down the shopping street or rent a bike to explore the woods and dunes? It’s up to you! In the evening, a delicious meal awaits. Will you venture into the nightlife or find a quiet spot to watch the stars come out?

The next morning, fresh rolls and juice await before the ship sets sail for a sandbank to experience the renowned dry-falling. Upon reaching the dry-fall location, the anchor is lowered, and we wait for the ebb tide to carry the sea away. It’s a marvellous sight as the seabed gradually becomes visible and the ship gently rests on the sand. The captain will signal when it’s safe to disembark and, importantly, when to return aboard. Enjoy the ultimate relaxation and serenity that this vast sandbank provides.

Once back on board, we wait until the ship lifts off the sand again and then sail to the next port. As the Terschelling skyline draws near, lend a hand to the first mate in stowing the sails, before setting out for your next adventure. A glass of wine in West Terschelling, one of the many excursions on offer, or an independent trek to the Bosplaat—it’s up to you again.

The weather holds, and the group agrees: we’re sailing further east! Heading to Ameland, take in the natural and cultural wonders the island has to offer. Breathe in the sea air and feel the wind in your hair. This trip offers a peaceful exploration of the many facets of the Wadden Sea, which is why it remains one of our classic journeys.

Care and catering

During this trip you will enjoy full board. All meals and snacks will be taken care of by the cook. Any dietary requirements will of course be taken into account. To enable him/her to conjure great dishes from the galley, he/she will occasionally need your help with the preparation and washing up. Water, tea, coffee and milk are included. Soft drinks, lemonade, beer and wine can be purchased by the glass at reasonable prices.

You will stay in a cabin with bunk bed, mirror and wash basin. The bed is already made for you and towels are provided. You can be assigned to a cabin with one fellow traveller of the same gender. You can also reserve a cabin for yourself for an additional charge. If booking with friends or family, we will, of course, place you together. Showers and toilets are shared with all passengers. The common room has ample seating, books and games. On some ships you will find a sound system and/or musical instrument.
