Schiermonnikoog

fun since ’85

*breadcrumbs*
The most eastern Frisian island is Schiermonnikoog.

Just like on Vlieland visitors may not bring their own car. Schiermonnikoog is one of the few national parks (since 1989) in the Netherlands. The island is 16 km long, 4 km wide and about 1000 inhabitants. It is not strange that more than 300,000 people annually visit this island.

Schiermonnikoog is a paradise for birdwatchers. Because with a rich soil life offers enough food to hundreds of thousands of birds that  visist this island. It is a valuable area for breeding birds, both migratory birds as overwintering. Important dune areas are Kooiduinen, d and Kobbenduinen and Willemsduin. Also the ‘Oosterkwelder’ is particularly interesting.
