About a hundred year ago this Klipper was built at the famous shipyard belonging to the van den Adel brothers in Papendracht. Three generations of the Pietersen family used her to transport sand and gravel.
In the 1980s the ship, by then a motor ship and lengthened by 10 metres, was sold as it was no longer profitable. Modern freighters can carry at least 10 times the cargo the Zuid-Holland could carry..
In 1996 the Zuid-Holland began her new life as a charter sailing ship. After the extensive renovation she was transformed into a beautiful sailing ship. The appearance is authentic, the interior attractive, with a marble mantelpiece and oak panels. In fine weather the roof can be opened.
The accommodation, of course, offers every modern convenience and comfort.
Skipper ten Broek can, thanks to his years of experience, guarantee you a safe voyage and can, tell you a lot about the history of the sailing fleet and the ecology of the Wadden Sea.
Sailing on the Zuid-Holland is a treat for real sailors. The skipper and crew expect guests to assist with sailing the ship, but sailing experience is not necessary. A trip with the Zuid-Holland, your company outing, school trip or family party is a great idea. The crew of the Zuid-Holland are looking forward to welcoming you on board.
